Philosophy Our Goal is to restore meaning, purpose,
vision, and to empower the youth and their families to develop loving
interactions and responsible behavior within families, relationships and
communities, leading to spiritual growth beyond the need or desire to
use/misuse/abuse substances.
Recovery is a process. The Catch a Fish
Not a Buzz ® program for youth provides a homelike environment, for youth
to grow spiritually and make positive life changes, resolve conflict in a
healthy manner and become responsible and productive members of society.
Whether we like it or not, growing up is going to happen. When a young
person is being thrown into adulthood it can be overwhelming, confusing, and
often times frightening. Being responsible, thinking and believing in yourself,
standing on your own two feet, helping and caring about others, confronting
your fears, are all challenges that we face on a daily basis. We must learn to
accept others and ourselves.
By challenging and inspiring a young
person to awaken within themselves a desire and commitment to change, he or she
can build the foundation necessary to begin the journey of self-recovery.
Individuals learning to take responsibility for themselves, and knowing that
they can manage their lives by creating viable choices and achieving a
successful future. This is achieved by teaching young people gradually to
replace self-centered ego gratification with objective measures about what is
good and right for them, such as no substances use/misuse/abuse, and acting out
behaviors they soon value hard work and helping others. In a very large part,
they help themselves get better through helping others. |
Mission Statement
We see our roles as facilitators in the
healing process by helping young people help themselves. Every young person is
a good person, and valued for their intrinsic worth as a human being.
Ours is a grass roots approach to create, reinforce and sustain conditions
conducive to healing, problem solving, and goal setting. We are committed to
implementing approaches that address the unique needs of young people, their
families, the educational system, and community.
The use/misuse/abuse
of substances and acting out behaviors are simply what they have turned to
because of isolation, poor coping skills, problem solving strategies, peer
pressures, and being misunderstood.
We provide resources for healing,
in a supportive caring environment, in which to identify issues and their
unique needs. We also work to engage the communities, education system,
families, and spiritual leaders in the healing process to encourage the youth
to walk with us on this journey. By contributing to an environment of care,
safety, understanding, positive role models, instruction and guidance, we can
support the young person to begin the healing process to rebuild the road to
personal and spiritual growth, enhance their quality of life, break out of
isolation and form meaningful relationships, develop loving interactions and
take responsibility for their behaviors.
We continue to work towards
enhancing a young person's capacity as individuals, to sustain and maintain
their well-being for themselves and that of future generations. |
